On my first day working for Double D Ranch, my coworker described the company to me as “the Ralph Lauren or Louis Vuitton of women’s western wear.” They are based in a small town called Yoakum, Texas but they have a storefront in the Stockyards of Fort Worth. I was hired by my boss, Mitchell Franz to manage and create video and photo content needed from their Fort Worth location. I also worked on a redesign of the Yoakum chamber of commerce website.
During the summer of 2023, I helped film and edit brand specific promotional and product marketing videos for use on social media and the web. I also provided video coverage of in-store events hosted throughout the summer. My favorite event from the summer was the Aug/Sept 2023 edition cover reveal party for the Cowboys and Indians Magazine. The cover featured actor Moses Brings Plenty who plays Mo in the Paramount Network series Yellowstone. It was an honor to meet him and his family at the event.
The work I am most proud of from the summer was covering Double D’s biggest event of the year, “Double D Addiction.” The company invites its most loyal and enthusiastic customers to a week full of shopping and fun activities. Each day, I would record the staff and customers as they shopped, dinned, and went out on the town. At night I would combine all of the day’s footage into a recap video to be posted on social media first thing in the morning.
The videos were a big success. Many of the ladies came up to me during the week and told me that they loved my videos and that they are much better than just putting pictures up online. They liked how I managed to capture genuine smiles and laughter. In the comments of the videos, customers said that after watching everyone have fun in the video they didn’t want to miss out so they bought a late ticket to the event. Two of the three owners of the company approached me as well to thank me for creating videos that the customers loved. I loved getting to know all of the people who work at Double D and getting to create meaningful videos.
